Summer of No Pants

The Summer of No Pants! on Hideous! Dreadful! Stinky!

I thought it might be fun this year to take part in the Summer of No Pants over at Hideous!Dreadful!Stinky! I have nothing against pants, but I happen to find skirts more comfortable in many situations. ( and prettier!) The goal is to make four skirts or dresses to wear during the summer instead of the usual shorts or pants.  My first creation is a very simple skirt. To make it extra simple I took the 44″ wide fabric and cut it in half making each piece 22″ wide. It is basically two rectangles sewn together, hemmed to my preferred length, and with elastic put in the top. It is made out of a stretchy woven. Poplin, maybe? I got it out of the remnant bin at Hancock fabric where I get much of my fabric. I added some ric rac to the bottom for a little fun, ’cause I just love ric rac! Such a fun trim. 🙂

Here are a couple photos of my creation that took less than an hour to make. I thought it would some instant gratification to start the challenge. Richie took the first one for me.  Children are kind of handy to have around sometimes!

I would like to make at least two skirts/dresses for the challenge. I am hoping to make it to four. One of my cousins is getting married in a month, so I am hoping to make something pretty to wear to the wedding. About a month ago I won a pattern and some fabric. (you can see it here if you would like)I wasn’t too partial to the fabric for the dress, so I got some different fabric I like better. The fabric I won was a leopard print linen with large pink roses on it. It isn’t out of the running yet- I just don’t know about wearing to a wedding. Date night maybe? The fabric I like is green with some textured circles in it. The problem is that it is a dress with a zipper in the back. That means it is not nursing friendly. *sigh* The pattern is from Deer and Doe and quite lovely.  See…

Belladone dress

I would probably add a few inches to the bottom. I prefer my hemlines longer- especially since small children like to hold onto the hems of dresses and sometimes lift them up even higher! Yikes! I do have a nursing dress pattern, too. Decisions, decisions…

Should you feel like it, you can click on this picture and repin my skirt to your pinterest. It gives me a vote and the person with the most votes wins a sewing machine. I will still love you even if you don’t vote for me. I might love you more if you do, though. 😉

Love the skirt and the green dress is divine!

question, where is the remnant bin at hancocks? I can’t ever seem to find one at mine in La Crosse.. then again I’m blinded by all the yummy fabrics!

I have never been to the one in La Crosse, but the ones in Steven’s Point and Eau Claire have them close the back wall of the store. It is a wire rack that is about 2 feet across and 5 foot high. The fabric is in rolls with paper labels on it. Hope that helps!

Awesome! Thanks so much. Ill be on the lookout for it next time I’m there.

  4. Love that green dress…super cute! The skirt you made is adorable as well. I agree about short skirts, they just don’t work with kids! Skirts are definitely comfy and usually cooler! Good luck to your summer of no pants!
